The Chinese Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre (CPC) and the Research Centre for Luso-Asian Studies (CIELA), of FAH / UM, are pleased to invite to attend the Seminar “Methods of Language Documentation”, to be held from 27/08 to 03/09/2018.

The seminar, given by Prof. Hugo Cardoso (University of Lisbon), is organized into 4 sessions (2.5h each), covering relevant basic theory and practices.

Language documentation refers to the collection and treatment of language samples, be it for purposes of the preservation of knowledge, specific research agendas, the development of educational resources, or many others.

This course will equip students with the essential tools to carry out linguistic documentation.  It will introduce tools and develop skills which are useful for research in Linguistics but also for the study of other disciplines of the Humanities and Social Sciences.

The working language of the Seminar will be English.  It is open to all post-graduate students in Linguistics and interested academic staff from UM, as well as from other local universities.

The Seminar at the University of Macau will be held in room E22-3015.

Prof. Cardoso will also give an open guest talk at Rui Cunha Foundation (FRC – www.ruicunha.org), on 30/08/2018 at 6:30-8:30pm, on the documentation of Sri Lankan Portuguese. The talk will be in Portuguese. No registration is required.
