The workshop is designed to provide the participants with the basic theoretical knowledge required to understand the logic of legal translation, and to give them with the necessary skills to translate legal texts from Portuguese to Chinese and vice-versa. Teaching will focus on practical translation activities (Portuguese-Chinese and vise-versa), exploring the specific features of a variety of legal texts.

Topics:

1st class – Notions and objectives of Juridical Translation in Macau (26/10)

2nd class – Theoretical and Legal principles of Juridical Translation. Practical exercises. (09/11)

3rd class – Rules of Juridical Translation: application in practical exercises. (16/11)

4th class – Juridical Language, global tendency and Macau case. (23/11)

5th class – Juridical translation techniques, discussion and comments. (30/11)

Objective & expected results:

By the end of the training workshop, participants should be able to do accurate reading and translation of simple legal texts Portuguese-Chinese and vise-versa.

At the end of the 15 hours, after evaluation, participants will receive a certificate of completion.

Targeted participants:

– Postgraduate students in Chinese-Portuguese and Portuguese-Chinese translation studies

– Graduates in Chinese<->Portuguese translation studies

– Graduates in Portuguese Studies

– Chinese<->Portuguese interpreters and/or translators

– Those with Portuguese language proficiency at Level B2 or above
